Article on “Boustead oil palm plantations success stories”
 
 
When the Al-Hadharah Boustead REIT ('Boustead REIT') was first listed in 2007, it was the first plantation-based Islamic REIT in Malaysia and in the world. The Boustead REIT invested mainly in income generating real estate assets with the objective of providing its investors with a stable distribution of income primarily from the leasing of plantation assets. In 2014, the Boustead REIT set a new benchmark for Malaysia’s capital market as the first privatisation and delisting of a REIT in Malaysia. It is based on an extensive survey researched by Asia Law & Practice, where almost 10,0000 nomination forms were sent to in-house counsel, corporate executives & lawyers at local, regional & international law firms. Respondents were invited to nominate individual lawyers who, they felt had excelled in one or more of the 26 practice areas covered by researchers, based on their work & reputation. The nominations received were then analysed & screened for firm, network and alliance bias. The list of specialists were then discussed and refined with advisers in legal centres across the region. PETRONAS Chemicals Group Berhad, or PCG, is the largest petrochemical company in Malaysia and one of the largest petrochemical producers in Southeast Asia. The plan for the listing of PCG was first announced by the Prime Minister of Malaysia at the Invest Malaysia 2010 conference and formed part of the Malaysian Government’s efforts to make more public sector companies available to domestic and international investors and to boost liquidity in Malaysia’s capital markets. PCG made its debut on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad, the Malaysian bourse, on 26 November 2010 as the biggest initial public offering (IPO) in Malaysia and Southeast Asia for the year.
